This entry is part 20 of 192 in the series Developer Blog

We’ve been making resources for the redm/fivem cfx server platform, and have generally been frustrated. Between the recent outages, and the inherent stability issues with using hacked together mod, we’be veen unhappy with the whole system. We have lots of ideas for different role play servers but find the cfx redm and fivem platforms to be very limiting.

So for the last 3 to 6 months we’ve been looking at other engines and writing our own game designed specifically to allow server owners the maximum adaptable platform for any style of role play, with all the built in features role players have requested from our redm servers.

This month we took a second look at Gary’s Mod, and Rust, and discovered that facepunch has it’s own editor being built and tested. It’s called S&Box. The listed objectives for the project meet our desired playform perfectly. A platform for artists and programmers to sell assets they’ve created. A stable game server on linux. A standard engine with normal engine and compiler. Built in asset builder and more. So we’ve made the decision to build our new server ideas on the s&box patform.

Project (BIG): RELIANCE3023 — Theme: Cyberpunk/Shadowrun/Hacker role play game/server. Lots of laws, lots of hacking to survive. We have a discord group where we’ve already mocked out the concept details. We are build out a git hub project plan. (Yes normally we use clickup, but were trying something new for this project.)
